What Korean Dish Would You Introduce?

6275793840 f3039cedff What Korean Dish Would You Introduce?

MBC is putting together a piece on Korean food globalization, and they asked me to place a simple survey on the site. So please take the time to answer this single question.

I had a little problem submitting my answer – don’t know if the issue was IE or your website (I changed over to Firefox, and it went a little smoother).  My answer was 순두부찌개.  I understand this is popular enough that there is a chain of 순두부 restaurants in the USA.  Running a close second place was 콩비지탕.  I’m assuming the question was meant to ask what Korean dish we would like to introduce to our friends back in our home country?

Let me make a final point about introducing Korean foods – I think Kimchi should be introduced to foreigners served hot.  You will find this at some of the 삼겹살 places which cook your meal on a large flat rock.  Kimchi itself is a new taste, as is the notion of eating cold side dishes.  Better to introduce one new thing at a time, I think.  Besides, the kimchi after being drenched in the grease from the pork is really delicious!

Is the USA franchise I’m thinking about called “BSD 두부”?

HI Chris, I think you’re referring to BCD Tofu (Buk Chang Dong) named after the neighborhood near the City Hall in Seoul.

Baby Jian’s choice would be very interesting!

ddokpokki is the best thing I ate first time I came to S.Korea next to cold noodle. Although most of my Indonesian’s male friends dislike that cold noodle – they say : it’s weird/taste funny. for foreigners : who stay longer than just a few days not as tourist here, we prefer ddokpokki than bibimbap. bulgogi or any “representative” foods to be introduce to our family & friends. just like hot dogs – the famous street food from US.

Sundubu jjigae is my favorite food, but maeuntang and samgyetang are pretty awesome, too.  I’m a Westerner who has recently discovered Korean food and now make my own kimchi, so I think everything is great.

    i love ddeokbokki! XD
but for recommendations, i’d go for samgyeopsal.. since ddeokbokki is rather spicy, not everyone can really eat it i guess :p but with bbqs, samgyeopsal is the winner for me.. or LA galbi for those who can’t have pork i guess :D
