I bring home live crabs, but I put them in the freezer to kill before chopping them up or placing them in a hot, boiling water. If freezing to death is an option that I would find palatable for myself (if given no choice in the matter of dying) then I figure it's o.k. to use with my food.

Not that buying live and fresh isn't a good thing. My mom's Korean so she totally buys into that bring-it-to-the-table-still-moving mentality, but I just can't understand the idea of placing live octopi on a bubbling cauldron of food as a byproduct of seeking freshness. Surely a few snips of those scissors would acheive the same desired (and less painful) results and leave enough residual twitching to satisfy any morbid "shock" factor.

Have we lost all sense of compassion? If you really must eat animal flesh (I have chosen not to) at least do it as humanely as possible. I know that I would prefer to be killed instantly not slowly ripped limb by limb with my intestimes pulled out. I'm sure the poor creature will not care how "honest" you are being with yourself.

My guess is the same type of agony octopi go through when being harvested for food or getting eaten in the wild, or rather, much any animal we eat.

Except an experience where you are there to watch it go from living to dinner plate is a little more honest than getting meat in shiny plastic wrapped Styrofoam containers at the MegaMart.

Just wondering if anyone actually thinks about the agony the animal is experiencing... especially as octupi are very intelligent creatures. When kept in an aquarium they need daily intellectual stimulation. All for the sake of a taste experience!

Sonagi,

Why can't he promote his stuff by saying XYZ is better. Don't we promote by saying buy USA stuff all the time here in US. We in the US are being more strict with Chinese stuff flowing in US.
