Wow, we’re really having some fun on the journal these days. Visitors have been skyrocketing, and our conversations are lively. I’m having a good time. Are you?

The server came by and gave me the bad news. All this fun has become a bit costly. The extra guests and all the pageviews and conversations have pushed the bill a bit higher, and the server tells me we owe more than usual. I’m trying to get some help from our advertisers, and they’ve been doing what they can, but even that’s not becoming enough. The check last month was pretty effin’ high.

We’re not stopping the party. Keep it going. Just when you feel the desire, throw a dollar or two in the tip jar to show appreciation for your blogger. We greatly appreciate the gratuity.

Just look at the bottom of this post, where it asks to buy a cup of coffee. It’s done through PayPal. Easy and painless. Just something to help us out until we get more sponsors.

Speaking of which–if you’re looking to advertise somewhere with a wonderful passionate group…

Asking for money? That doesn’t go over too well with me. If you can’t do this for the love of spreading the word about food, then maybe you should find something else to do.

I suppose you think that bloggers should just live in air, eh?

As I said, the server is starting to cost a lot of money. I need to pay
      the bills.

I think it’s funny that in other services it’s okay for people to ask to
be paid for what they do, but when it comes to web sites people feel
this sense of entitlement that they demand to have everything for free,
and God forbid if you ask for some help.

I hope you get much satisfaction out of life complaining about other
      things you get for free.

I do a food blog for free and have your blog listed in my blog roll. I am a retired journalist and food writer and do not need income from a blog or Web site. If this is the only way you can earn money, maybe you should take stock of your life and get a real job.

Thanks for the professional advice. Good luck with using Blogger. When
you decide to take off the training wheels and start paying for your own
blog and get hit with $200 a month in server fees, we’ll be happy to
help you out. Until then, I either have to start getting some funding or
close down the site. I do indeed have a real job, along with being a
real dining editor for a real publication. I also have real debts and a
real baby on the way. If I don’t get some real income real fast this
site will be in real trouble.

Ouch, Joe. I think you pwned him. BTW, I have blogger, too. : P

Yeah what a small-timer that guy is!

He’s stuck on Blogger and gets unlimited bandwidth and CPU cycles for free, as well as Google’s CDN, you took the training wheels off and are going straight over the handlebars for $200.

I’d rather joe ask his readers to chip in than have him start doing paid reviews and accepting advertisers who try to micro-manage his content.

You do realize that time is money, right? That the time someone spends writing and researching blog posts is an investment in the life of you, the reader. Doesn’t that investment deserve a few dividends – every once in a while?

Love the website and happy to occasionally make a contribution. It would be great to see more over at Zen Kimchi Dining, too.

Thank you! I agree. I need to get more on ZenKimchi Dining. It just
comes down to how little time I have in the week combined with the fact
that the site depends mostly on reader contributions. I have a lot of
restaurants in the queue. I’ll try harder to get them published.

    Joe,

You should look at other ways to take money. I am having problems with PayPal. I am to the point that I plan to delete my account with them. And I have been with them from the start but they no longer have any support.

    • http://www.zenkimchi.com/FoodJournal/ ZenKimchi

Thanks James. I haven’t had any problems with them, but I am also
looking for more ways. I’d much rather not depend on donations if I had
      the choice.
