this contest could be fun but I’m sorry, have you guys tried H-Mart kimchi? If I won I would pay them NOT to give me a years worth of kimchi. There’s a reason why on most days when you shop, there are more sour bags of “kimchi for soup” on discount than there are bottles of ready to eat kimchi. Bland (in kimchi terms), over salted, unattractive, unbalanced, quick-to-spoil, pure pungent stuff.
It’s a shame that most non-Koreans don’t know any better. I would say they’re the majority of the customers who buy the house brand. However, many Koreans/Korean-Americans no longer make kimchi and settle for the low-quality, cheap stuff, therefore bringing the bar way down on store-bought kimchi standards.
