Cuisine: Korean Hof

Price: $

Suggested Items: The tall column of beer with ice in it

Bubblecats is a slightly upscale novelty bar whose main attraction is the waitresses, who dress in sexy outfits and who all dance to a song every hour on the hour until midnight. Bubblecats also offers tall, clear cylinders of beer about three feet tall with ice down the center of the column, which is a good choice for a group of three people or more.

The atmosphere in Bubblecats is similar to Hooters, but Bubblecats has been around since before 2005. Female patrons are welcome in BC, and I’ve taken girls several times and they all enjoyed it.

The restaurant does not specifically cater to foreigners, but as a Westerner I’ve always been welcomed with a smile. There wasn’t much English on the menu, and most of the girls working there didn’t seem to understand much English (especially talking over the music, which can get a little loud at times). I’d recommend taking a friend who speaks Korean well.

Most of the food is typical Korean bar food (anju) like puffed wheat, but the food isn’t the reason to visit this place. This is the place to go to hoist a few beers with good friends and admire the cute waitresses.

Location

Seoul, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Yeouido-dong 43, on the 4th floor of the Miwon building.

The closest landmarks are Yeouido station and Lotte Castle Ivy.

From Yeouido station, depart exit 5 and walk 400 meters to a major intersection, then turn right and walk about 350 meters.  The correct building has one or two purple signs with a very feminine looking cat and the name of the restaurant written in Hangul, and it looks like a white office building.  Go into the lobby and take the elevator to the 4th floor, which is all Bubblecats.

If you take a taxi, I recommend telling the driver to take you to “Lotte Castle Ivy” in Yeouido.  From Lotte Castle Ivy, follow the road approximately 150 meters to the northwest, and identify the building described above.
