Cuisine: Filipino

Price: $

Reservations: No

Suggested Items: Set Lunch, Halo-halo

From early Sunday morning to that evening, the Filipino market in Hyewha-dong opens for business.  Yes, it’s not a restaurant, but it is a place to find some good eats.  Some hard-to-find items, such as corned beef hash and okra are sold at some of the vendors.  The highlight of the Filipino market is the food tent.  There are usually a few of them.  There’s a main one in the middle that serves a set lunch of rice with three sides for 5,000 won.  These sides include meaty stick-to-your-ribs dishes.  I recommend the longanisa sausages, which you can also buy separately on a string to take home.  On hot summer days, the halo-halo will cool you off.  It’s hand-shaven ice with sweet fruity toppings, similar to Korean patbingsu.  Great atmosphere and friendly folks.
