Bob’s Barbie 밥스바비

Location: Chain (Hongdae, Anyang)
Cuisine: Australian
Price: Cheap
Reservations: No
Suggested Items: Meat Pie, Bob’s Chili Dog
This came as a complete surprise. What looked like a typical Korean fusion spot where they take their concepts of western foods and drown them in squeeze bottle gunk has turned out to be pretty good. Bob’s Barbie specializes in Australian meat pies and supposedly Australian hot dogs (can anyone verify the authenticity of that). The meat pies aren’t “OMG YOU GOTTA TRY THIS.” They’re a little gooey on the inside, but the spices are good, the crust is flaky and it just satisfies that craving. Their hot dogs were really the double takes. We were expecting the usual Korean hot dog with mayo and something weird like peanut butter. Instead they came out with some decent quality. The tube steak itself is spicy. The toppings, which include sour cream, jalapenos and a Thai-style chili sauce, are not cloyingly sweet as with other Korean hot dog operations. Even the bun is soft and of high quality. Bob’s Barbie gives hope that there may be hope for the Korean hot dog.
